Have you heard about the new RSV recommended in pregnancy? Don’t forget to ask your midwife also 👶

Posted @withregram • @netmums Pregnant and wondering how the new RSV vaccine will help protect your newborn baby? Midwife Bex Smith joins our special episode of Unfiltered and gives the lowdown on the vaccine which you can have from 28 weeks of pregnancy.

RSV is something podcast host Caroline Verdon knows a lot about. She says, ‘My youngest was premature and for the first two and a half years of his life we didn’t get more than a two and half week break without needing to go to hospital because he would get RSV and then it would turn into bronchiolitis or he’d have croup.’

Listen to the special episode of Unfiltered via the link in our bio to hear the unfiltered truths about pregnancy and newborn babies.

Following on from our new post this week about winter illnesses- check out this reel and caption below 👇

Posted @withregram • @therelaxedmumma RSV season is upon us mummas,

Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious. Infants and older adults are more likely to develop severe RSV and need hospitalization.

You can take everyday prevention measures to help reduce the spread of RSV and other respiratory illnesses.

- Keep baby home when sick.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your shirt sleeve, not your hands.
- Wash your hands and babies often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching your face and babies with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with others, such as kissing, shaking hands, and sharing cups and eating utensils.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and mobile devices.

Symptoms include:

- Runny nose
- Decrease in appetite
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Fever
- Wheezing

Mummas, don’t let anyone who isn’t you kiss your baby in their hands and face this season, it can be life threatening,

Like and tag your mumma friends so they know!

Share and tag with friends and family so they know too! 🤍

Posted @withregram • @australianbirthstories Newborns have small stomachs

You might be surprised just how small the capacity of a newborn’s stomach is. So I’ve created this little clip to show you.

Breastfeeding preparation starts in pregnancy and now, you can access expert information in @the.birth.class

I get it, you’re preparing for birth and that’s your focus for now. But a successful breastfeeding journey starts in pregnancy, when you’ve got the time and space to learn and digest the information which will help you form realistic expectations.

The updated breastfeeding module in The Birth Class features Joelleen Winduss-Paye, a midwife, international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) and naturopath. She shares an abundance of evidence-based information, including:

* The benefits of antenatal expressing (and how to do it)
* The nutritional potency of colostrum
* Why your baby’s latch matters
* What you can expect in the first days and weeks of breastfeeding
* The size of your baby’s stomach and why they feed so frequently
* How an IBCLC can guide you and help you navigate feeding challenges

Following on from our new post on Monday, we’re resharing a fantastic account @boobtofood who have been a life saver on the weaning journey with my son! Evidence based and have a team that cover many specialities.

Posted @withregram • @boobtofood Are you starting solids soon? Wondering what to start with? Feeling overwhelmed?

There’s no right or wrong food to start with (although we would generally recommend your baby’s first few introductions to food be foods considered low allergenic) but there are some foods that we like to focus on for a few reasons:

1. Meet your baby’s nutrient requirements particularly iron, zinc and DHA
2. Are easy to digest for your baby’s maturing digestive system
3. Are good foods to practice their chewing skills (eg mango pits/chicken drumsticks)
4. Are top allergens which are recommended for early introduction to minimise the risk of allergies developing (specifically peanut and egg)

Do you want a copy of our first food guide? Where we outline which foods to feed at different stages of your baby’s solids journey?

Comment ‘guide’ and we will message it to you!

I love going out on autumn walks with my son and collecting leaves, acorns and conkers (always leaving plenty for the animals and others!) and seeing what art we can make.
